Special Olympics New York City Regional Softball Tournament at Padavan & Preller Field
New York Mets Film Crew to Shoot Footage and Mr. Met to Cheer on Athletes

WHAT:
Inaugural Special Olympics New York City Regional Softball Tournament. Teams from the 5 boroughs and Long Island to compete.

WHO:
Mr. Met will meet and greet with Special Olympics softball athletes from the New York City Region. New York Mets video crew will film opening ceremonies and tournament games. Diamond Vision will display footage from the competition at the New York Mets game on Sunday, September 24.

WHEN: Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006
Opening Ceremonies: 9 am
Tournament: 9:30 am – 4:00 pm

WHERE: Padavan & Preller Field – 236-02 Hillside Avenue – Queens, NY

20,000 individuals with intellectual disabilities participate in programs provided by Special Olympics New York – NYC Region. Through sports training and competition Special Olympics New York – NYC Region offers opportunities for athletes to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience the joy of achievement in a variety of Olympic-style sports. This is accomplished with a network of 2,000 dedicated volunteers, including 388 certified coaches. Athletes can advance from local events to regional, state, national and international competitions. All training and competitions are cost-free to the athletes, their families and caregivers.
