MORE TO COME!
ANNOUNCEMENTS

PLEASE reserve August 2nd, 2008 for the Special Olympics New York City Region Coaches' Conference!
This conference is a great way to start the certification process for new coaches and will hold invaluable information for veteran coaches! The conference will be held at:

Aviator Sports Center
Hangar 5
Floyd Bennett Field
Brooklyn, NY 11234

For more information and directions, you can visit their website at http://www.aviatorsports.com. This venue is easily accessible from all five boroughs and contains ample free parking!

For new coaches, this conference is the jumping off point for you to join the exciting and rewarding experience of training Special Olympics athletes! Individuals over the age of sixteen may become certified. The time commitment involved after you are certified is about one to two hours per week, per sport season. In order to become a certified coach, you must attend a General Orientation/Protective Behaviors class, complete a volunteer application, sport-specific training, and a 10-hour practicum. This conference combines the first three steps into one simple process and leaves you ready to start your 10-hour practicum. We are offering sports-specific training in soccer. You should still attend this conference even if you are interested in coaching a sport other than those offered, as the initial certification steps are uniform. The conference should last from about 8:30am to 12:15pm for new coaches. We will have free giveaways and provide lunch.

For veteran coaches, the time requirement is only 8:30am to 11:30am (lunch begins at 11:30am, which you may choose to stay for or not) and we will have free giveaways! Please attend!

USTA RECREATIONAL COACH WORKSHOP TO TAKE PLACE IN:
Lake Harmony, Pa. 18624

One of Over 200 Clinics to Help Train Tennis Teachers and Coaches
Taking Place Throughout the Country to be Held at The Resort at Split Rock.

Lake Harmony, Pa., June 10, 2008 - The United States Tennis Association today announced that a Recreational Coach Workshop will be taking place at The Resort at Split Rock, Lake Harmony, Pa. 18624, on June 28, 2008 from 9 am-3:30 pm. This is one of over 200 events taking place across the nation in 2008 as part of a National initiative by the USTA.

Recreational Coach Workshops (RCWs) are interactive, on-court training programs designed for tennis teachers and coaches working with players at the recreational level. Each workshop is six hours in length and conducted by a certified tennis professional specifically trained for the RCW Program. The goal of the program is to help all teachers, coaches, and those interested in learning how to become a recreational coach, with instruction, fresh and innovative ideas and easy-to-follow resources.

"We understand the importance of those teachers and coaches who are working with players at the recreational level," said Kirk Anderson, Director, Recreational Coaches and Programming, USTA. "These people play a significant role in determining if a player continues to play tennis. We want to give the workshop participants exciting ways to introduce the sport and fun activities to keep kids and adults playing."

Every workshop participant will receive lesson plans and sample equipment in an effort to make the learning process fun and easy. The cost to attend the workshop is $20.00, (includes lunch) and participants must bring a racquet. To sign up for the RCW held on June 28, contact George Wolbers at 704-840-9285. E-mail, gwolbers10s@aol.com

If rain it will be held at The Galleria (indoor courts) at Split Rock, Lake Harmony Pa. 18624
